Prioritising Your Mental Health in 2025

As we move from winter into spring, it provides the opportunity to reflect on the beginning of the new year. The first quarter of the year can bring many challenges for mental health, whether it’s Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), post-Christmas stress or the pressure of sticking to your New Year’s resolutions. We’ve spent the past three months focusing on raising awareness, providing support and helping both individuals and workplaces take proactive steps towards improved mental wellbeing.

Here’s a look at the key themes from the past three months and what they mean for your mental health journey in 2025.

Beating the Winter Blues
One of the most talked about (or often not) topics this quarter was Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Our founder, Peace, had the opportunity to discuss SAD on BBC Radio, highlighting how a lack of sunlight and cold weather can significantly impact mood, energy levels and overall wellbeing.

The interview also shared valuable insights on how SAD affects individuals differently, with symptoms ranging from low energy and poor concentration to deep feelings of sadness and isolation. It also emphasised the importance of early intervention, offering practical strategies such as maintaining a regular routine and getting more fresh air to help combat the symptoms.

Additionally, the discussion shed light on the misconceptions surrounding SAD, particularly the idea that it is just ‘winter blues’ rather than a recognised mental health condition. Peace stressed the importance of seeking professional support when needed and how counselling services can help individuals develop coping mechanisms and strategies to manage seasonal mood changes effectively.

While SAD is real, the good news is that as we move into spring, many people start to feel a natural lift in their mood. Longer daylight hours, more opportunities to get outdoors and a shift in mindset can help ease seasonal depression. If winter was a struggle, now is the perfect time to reset and focus on selfcare, set fresh goals and introduce new routines.

Why Therapy Isn’t Just for Crisis
A common misconception is that therapy is only for those in crisis. At Piece Into Peace, we’ve been challenging this mindset by promoting the benefits of ongoing mental health support.

Therapy can help with:
●    Managing everyday stress and anxiety
●    Building confidence and self worth
●    Understanding and changing negative thought patterns
●    Navigating life transitions
●    Nurturing your relationships, both pre and post marriage
●    Understanding yourself, your goals and how to become the best version of yourself

The reality is, investing in therapy before reaching crisis point leads to better long term mental health. With counselling services now more accessible than ever there’s never been a better time to prioritise your wellbeing and invest in yourself.

Workplace Mental Health
The conversation around workplace mental health has been growing, and for good reason. In the UK, mental health related absences are at an all time high, with over 17 million working days lost annually due to stress, depression and anxiety.

Employers have a responsibility to create mentally healthy workplaces. Strategies like offering flexible working arrangements, promoting open conversations and providing access to mental health support can help employees feel more supported and in turn reduce absence..

We offer tailored mental health training and support to help your employees manage workplace stress, burnout and career transitions. If you or your organisation are looking to improve employee wellbeing, now is the time to take action.

The Effects of Social Media on Mental Health
One of the most pressing issues in mental health today is the impact of social media on young people. While social media can be a source of connection and inspiration, it can also contribute to anxiety, low self esteem and burnout.

Tips for maintaining a healthy relationship with social media include:
✔ Setting screen time limits
✔ Unfollowing accounts that have a negative impact
✔ Encouraging open conversations about online experiences
✔ Taking regular digital detoxes to prioritise real world interactions.

Through education and making conscious choices about how we use social media, we can reduce its negative impact, boost the positives that it provides and support the mental wellbeing of young people.
